Assassins

Stage Musical

Music & Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Book by John Weidman
Directed by Greg Abbott
Produced by Drama Tech Theatre

1993

I was in the chorus for this dark Sondheim musical. The music is challenging because much of it drifts back and forth between major and minor keys, adding to the disturbing subject matter: the tormented people who attempted, or were able to, kill the president of the United States.

Trivia: Drama Tech presented the Atlanta premiere of Assassins and was the first theatre to perform "Something just broke..." which was added to the libretto in 1993. Sondheim faxed us the handwritten score just before rehearsals started.
