Mr. Snuggles - Short
More sweetness: received news on June 23 that the Action on Film Int'l Film Festival accepted the Mr. Snuggles short film, written and directed by Byron Conrad Erwin. Another feastival, another shot at an award. Fingers crossed.
Production
Morningside Monster - Feature
Whoo hoo! The last scenes for Morningside Monster, including a couple days with my character, are wrapped this month. I had only 4 days on set for this feature, plus as many days for FX work, but the schedule spread out from my first FX castings in October to final wrap on June 30th. Editing has been ongoing and, last I heard, they were expecting to have the final cut of the feature this Fall. Check out the sweet trailer. Starring Robert Pralgo (Vampire Diaries) and Nicholas Brendon (Buffy The Vampireslayer, Criminal Minds).
Simon Maxwell - Feature
My 20th acting credit on IMDb is now in pre-production. This month all the casting was completed for all the leads & principals for Simon Maxwell, a movie about an tough interrogator who meets his match in a ruthless terrorist. Footage for a trailer was filmed on the 22nd.
First Person Meets Third Person - Feature
Shooting has resumed on the feature film First Person Meets Third Person after schedule conflicts necessitated some re-casting. I have 8 pages of two-person scenes with the lead in this romantic crime drama. At least one day of shooting in this month and, with luck, we'll squeeze in the rest and wrap my character as a DEA agent.
Suicide Prevention PSA - Commercial
Director Garrett DeHart of New Lexicon Productions tagged me for a public service announcement (30 sec TV spot) filmed on June 8th. I played a lawyer for a along with Tom Todaro, Stephanie Stevens and a room of jurors.
Pre Production
This is Water
DeHart is also in pre-production on a spec film inspired by the PSA and the powerful "This is Water" video created to visualize a great commencement speech by David Foster Wallace. Interesting video style very well executed by Matthew Freidell at The Glossary. Anyway, I'll have a role DeHart's derivation if the client green lights the project.
Black and White - Feature
I got cast to play a haywire arms dealer in Black & White by Djinn Productions. What I know so far is this jumpy character, named Twitch, is "a little looney with a little too much crack and heroin in his brain cells. The kind of guy who scurries around the house in his underwear with nothing else on but a pair of bunny slippers and a paper-thin bathrobe." Definitely a Steve Buscemi or Bruce Dern kind of role. Anyway, the 6-page scene is a one-day shoot, probably some weekend in July.
Inspiration
Pure Awe - Back to Camera montage
Oh, man, I love this sweet collection of awe-inspiring shots. You've surely seen many of these "back-to-the-camera" shots ― where the character is looking out at some epic landscape (or "spacescape") ― but when several dozen are put together in this supercut, the impact is overpowering. And you only need a stand-in because this emotional kick is 100% cinematographic.
Cost of Living - 2-person Sci Fi short
I am impressed by this 2012 sci-fi short: solid acting, sound, and camera. It's also an action comedy that was accomplished very minimally: only two on-screen actors, two costumes, and minimal location dressing too, e.g., some signage, shop lamps, and black plastic masking. The main props are two assault rifles and much the FX is buckets of goo tossed in from off-camera. I've added it to my list of favorite sci-fi shorts
