Screenings and Distribution
Horror Hotel - Season 1
Starting this month, the Horror Hotel series is available on DirectTV channel 568 (and AT&T 1789) in rotation with other short films. First episode up is "Tilt" with the delightful Marie Barker on the 8th; the Invader episode with me airs on the 22nd.
American Hell - Short
Buried Alive Film Fest screening in Atlanta for American Hell at the Fabrefaction Theatre, 7:00PM on the 23rd.

Mr. Lockjaw - Pilot
On Nov 3rd we wrapped the last big scene of principal photography for Mr Lockjaw with a big crime scene, a mess of extras, and a cold, overnight exterior shoot. Up next, about 3½ pages of pickups, some foley work, and dubbing a ton of ventriloquism — the puppet has many more lines than me.
Friend Request - Horror
Black Flight Studios is shooting an 8-page story called Friend Request, a page of which has me playing "a seemingly-normal guy...handsome and charming, with an underlying creep factor." The character reminds me of my role in No Experience Necessary, but with that "handsome and charming" bonus.
Willard - Short Film
We knocked out that last murder for Willard this month, with writer/director Dylan Chandler making his cameo as a corpse. We also knocked out some ADR and miscelaneous pickups. I think the only thing left for me is a re-shoot: a scene we did in October but the footage was crap. Need a different location for 'the club.'
Events
Atlanta Screenwriters Group
Every 1st and 3rd Thursday night ASG meets at Georgia State University. On the 6th they hosted a table Read of Anthony McHie's Isochronism. It starts out all La Femme Nakita but is more like a cross of with Primer and 12:01 PM . ASG is a good time for script analysis & feedback, and for cold reading.
Atlanta Web Design Group
Really enjoyed UX expert Jared Spool at the Nov 3rd AWDG meeting. He spoke passionately about UX design and, surprisingly, had people laughing about the evils of bad metrics. There's a good summary here.
Creating Immersive and Experiential Works
a.k.a. theatrical user experience design. I shared in a conversation with Artistic Director Zach Morris of
Third Rail Projects about creating immersive entertainment and experiential theatre...and I took 4 pages of notes. So cool to see many ingredients overlap with what I know of long-form improv shows. Check out their style in this
video. Zach was in town to consult with PushPush Film and Theatre on some shows in development based on his success in the New York market. Some of key design factors:
- Granting the audience agency to enable a personalized experience
- Creating an intimate environment
- Immediately establishing trust between performers and audience
TRP’s award-winning immersive dance-theatre production, Then She Fell, is clearly hitting the mark with this formula: over 1000 performances (limited to 15 patrons each!) and is now extended through March. I'm a little jealous that Chris Ethridge gets to see it in Brooklyn next week.
Atlanta Film Festival - Eat, Drink, & B*Indie
This month's panel discusses crowd-frunding experiences, dos and don't, including Dad's Garage recent capital campaign that raised over $169,000. Every 3rd Tuesday of the month at Manuel's Tavern..
Bad Blood - Wrap Party
A couple dozen folks from the cast and crew out for the wrap on Bad Blood film. Good beers, good pizzas. Already looking forward to a rough-cut preview party, and a release party, and...
Copy That
Apple before Audi
There is a beautiful new Audi ad that echoes the anti-conformity message in Apple's classic 1984 spot: menacing Big Brother voice-over, strange playback device which is physically smashed by a sexy challenger, post-smash product info. Remarkably similar: when I replaced Audi's audio track with the 30-year-old Apple audio the crash point matched perfectly. I suspect an intentional omage.

Blackhats before Blackhat
A website and trailer came out for a feature Blackhat that premieres in January.
Shockingly, the web and poster images for the big-budget production look like they could have been for my Blackhats, a movie whose materials have been on-line for over a year. Below is an example split-screen with graphics from both trailers.
The Blackhats movie has been in post for over two years now so, on the bright side, if it gets released around the same time, it's likely the other movie's ad budget will also drive traffic to our product, if only by accident!
Post Production
Bad Blood The Movie
Into post-production on Bad Blood and I'm told the sound coverage is solid so minimal ADR for me. On the other hand, I’m expecting a day or two of shooting to pickup 1½ pages (three short scenes) that didn't fit into the principal photography schedule.
